Sensory Safe Autism
Meet The Founder
Hello! My name is Hyunwoo Shin and I'm currently in high school. For the past four years, I've gotten the privilege to teach children with autism the game of tennis. Throughout these four years, I've gotten to know what their favorite movies or books were, how to make them laugh, and in one case, how many countries they could rattle off by memory. Over time, i grew a deep love and appreciation for the autistic community, and gave me something very special: a drive to help them in any way I could.
Why short-form content?
One day, as I was "doom-scrolling" after a long volunteering session, I came across a common video in my feed: an edit of an aston martin vantage. Of course, I immediately checked the comments, and found one comment that caught my eye. "Please add a sensory warning to the front of the video".
It was so simple, yet I realized that could be a problem for the community that I deeply cared about. A survey of over 25 parents and educators confirmed my suspicions. Short-form content was genuinely harmful for the autistic community.
That's why, about a month ago, I decided to start SensorySafe Autism, a project designed to tackle this issue head on, making a long, positive impact on the community that I love.
*It was one of a aston martin vantage, if you're curious.
